Employee's cafeteria-plan elections are generally irrevocable until the beginning of the next plan year.
However, a cafeteria plan may generally permit an employee to revoke an election and make a new one mid-year change due to any one of the following life events:
- Change in marital status (i.e., marriage or divorce)
- Chang to number of dependents (i.e., birth or adoption)
- Change to residency (i.e., address change)
- Change in employment status (i.e., hire, rehire, or termination)
- Significant cost or coverage changes
- Special enrollment entitlement
- FMLA
- Medicare entitlement
